Local reports indicate that Ngannou, 38, was riding a motorbike when he collided with the teenage girl, who sustained severe injuries to her arm and leg. The girl was rushed to Yaoundé General Hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Francis Ngannou, who is reportedly physically unharmed, is said to be “devastated” following the fatal crash. Though he has not yet issued a public statement, reports suggest that the fighter has paid for the girl's medical expenses.
Ngannou, known for his love of motorcycles, has previously spoken about the therapeutic role riding plays in his life. However, this incident marks a tragic turn, adding to a series of personal tragedies for the MMA icon.
The accident comes just months after Ngannou lost his 15-month-old son, Kobe, in April of last year. That heartbreaking loss profoundly impacted him, prompting an emotional return to the ring in October. In a touching tribute following his victory over Renan Ferreira in Saudi Arabia, Ngannou dedicated the fight to his late son, breaking down in tears during the post-fight interview.
“I can’t think about anything other than my son, Kobe,” Ngannou said at the time. “I only took this fight because of him. I hope they can remember his name, because without Kobe, we wouldn’t be here tonight.”
As investigations into the crash continue, the MMA world awaits an official statement from Ngannou. The tragic accident has left many in mourning and raised fresh concerns over road safety and celebrity responsibility in high-risk behaviors like motorcycling.
